Everyday somebody has the Blues
The music of the Blues is not only a song that you hear it's a sound that you feel. Artists perform Blues music with their heart and their soul. Some with the softness of a whisper or the wail of sorrow. Others with an infectious beat and excitement. The songs all tell a story everyone can relate to.
The Blues have inspired many musicians from country, jazz, and rock, worldwide. There are bookstores and Web sites full of stories of popular and legendary musicians touched by the power of the Blues.
It's amusing to reflect on, but everyone believes that their generation has had the 'best' music. With technology today, much popular music is manufactured, and musical talent gets lost. Almost everyone you meet has a story about today's music, and that which was so popular a generation or more ago. We believe that our kids deserve to be exposed to the roots of American music.
With the various changes in cultures and sounds and the inventions of newer sounds by way of some amazing devices, we believe that the missing element in much of today's musical offerings is the ingredient from the Blues, and we support sharing and exposure of this traditional American sound for others to enjoy and experience.
The non-profit Gulf Coast Blues Society was founded as a result of not only a passion for the Blues, but a result of having the blues. Much like the founders of Blues, the founder realized the healing powers of the music-the release, the expression, the energy-and decided to share the message with others along the Gulf coast. Our mission is to promote and preserve the history of Blues music through Blues in the Schools programs, Blues-related events in the area, and to promote awareness throughout the community.
Anyone in the Gulf Coast area who is interested in music, open to learning more about Blues music, as well as those already immersed in Blues and want to be 'in the know' about where to experience it live, will appreciate Gulf Coast Blues Society.
Why should you be interested in the Gulf Coast Blues Society?
Because these types of programs can enhance a child's life! Schools are being forced to make cut backs and reductions and now more than ever they need outside support with 'the arts'. Children today are inundated with choices and yet they miss the basics that brought them some of the material they hear today. When asked whom the music superstars of a few years ago listen to or were influenced by, there is almost always a mention of the Blues.
Adults will be interested, too, because membership is a growing social outlet; an opportunity to mingle with like-minded people, while experiencing live music! You will also be proud knowing you are promoting Blues music in the school systems. Newsletters will give paying members access to updated information such as artist spotlights, music reviews, and up to the minute functions surrounding the Gulf Coast Blues Society.
Up to this point, there has not been a Blues society in our area! Our website allows you to make donations that promote and support Blues in the Schools programs membership, and keeps our viewers 'in the know' with an updated calendar. We spend many hours looking for the best music venues so you can rely on us to have a calendar with only 'must see' events!
Visit us often for updates
We will have artist spotlights and reviews in our "members only" newsletters released soon that you can join.
